Rescue Me ID: 17-12-12-00048Zamonda (male)

Miniature Pinscher Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Darling Zamonda is a shy boy, who needs a quiet household, and patient adopters tho help him blossom. He came to us recently from the NYC ACC, after his owners left him to a grisly fate. Owner surrendered dogs are at high risk for euthanasia, because they only have 48 hours to impress shelter staff, and earn a spot in the adoption program. Zamonda was too busy having a nervous breakdown to impress anybody, and took no pains to ingratiate himself. His shelter evaluations were sketchy, and it seemed to us that he was scared to death. It's not uncommon for rescue dogs to become nervous and fearful in the shelter environment, and that was ... (Read More)certainly the case with Zamonda. As soon as he exited the premises, he seemed to relax and now has been with us for a while. He's seems very submissive and shy at first meeting, and will take a few minutes to warm up to strangers. Once he bonds with his people, Zamonda is an absolute love, and the consummate lap dog. Zamonda is a unique looking pup. He is a tiny dog at only 6 pounds, with extremely petite features. His breed origins seem rooted in the Chihuahua, but his coloring seems to suggest Miniature Pinscher. He could well be a MinChi! Atop this pixie frame sits a characteristic apple shaped Chihuahua noggin, with an elongated pointed muzzle. Zamonda's black and tan coat is smooth and requires minimal grooming. Zamonda's demeanor is very demure, and mild mannered. He would be a superb choice for an adult single or couple, who have some understanding of rescue dog challenges. We think that he would do best in a laid back home, perhap with one or two low to medium energy dogs or cats. Zamonda loves gentle attention, and could join a subdued family with adult children, but the bustling activity of an active family with toddlers would blow his tiny mind! Zamonda has not had much obedience training, but is an attentive little boy, who responds well to postitive rewards based obedience and leadership training. He has been an extremely well-behaved houseguest, and has good overall house manners. Zamonda will need some ongoing tweaking in his potty habits. His former owners confused him by going back and forth between outside and paper training. He is crate trained, but adopters should expect to forgive some initial accidents as he adjusts to his new potty routine. He will definitely need a hearty winter outfit to brave the elements for his daily constitutionals. Zamonda appears to be well cared for, his skin and coat are soft and lustrous, and his teeth and gums are in good shape for an adult dog. He has had a full dental cleaning, and preoperative blood work all within normal limits. A consistent dental care plan will go a long way to avoid future dental cleanings and extractions. Zamonda is in excellent health and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza) and Bordatella. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis, and he has been dewormed. If you are interested in Zamonda, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call/text Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info. (Less)
